Facing Lung Surgery: Uncle Si’s Health Journey
Positive Outlook Amidst Health Struggles
In the television show Duck Dynasty, the character of Uncle Si Robertson is gearing up for lung surgery after battling health issues for the past year and a half. Despite the challenges, he remains upbeat about the upcoming procedure, confident that he’ll soon be back to his chatty self once it’s over.
Acknowledging Smoking and COPD
Si Robertson has openly admitted on multiple episodes of the podcast “Duck Call Room” that smoking has contributed to his poor lung health and breathing difficulties. Additionally, he has been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which made his early 2021 COVID-19 diagnosis especially concerning.
Facing Challenges During COVID-19
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Si’s health struggles became more pronounced. Initially hesitant to seek medical attention, he eventually relented and began to recover after receiving proper care. However, he faced challenges in adhering to his treatment plan, which concerned his loved ones and podcast collaborators.
Preparing for Surgery
In May 2022, Si revealed in episode 146 of the Duck Call Room podcast that he needed lung surgery to address his condition. He explained that while one of his lungs operates normally during inhalation and exhalation, the other is underperforming, necessitating the placement of a device to assist with exhalation.
Upcoming Procedure
As surgery looms on the horizon, Si is preparing for the next steps. In an email, he mentioned, “It looks like I’m approved for lung surgery, but there are a few more things we need to achieve first.” Despite the challenges ahead, he remains optimistic and promises to share more stories once the procedure is complete.
