Teacher realises the triplets are malnourished orphans after noticing they exclusively communicate with each other.

A New Beginning with GEAR UP

When Haley, Kassidy, and Sierra entered Valley High School in Las Vegas, their disinterest in school and lack of engagement with teachers were evident. They frequently skipped classes and struggled academically. However, instead of giving up on them, Valley High School introduced the triplets to the GEAR UP Program.

Empowerment Through GEAR UP

The GEAR UP Program, a component of the federal Higher Education Act, aims to support low-income students by fostering skill development, providing encouragement, and preparing them for postsecondary education. As the triplets began feeling safe and supported by the GEAR UP staff, their academic performance started to improve.

Unveiling a Tragic Past

Their story took a grim turn when they finally shared the truth about their lives. Losing their mother at the age of 3 and witnessing their father’s incarceration in 6th grade, the triplets endured a traumatic childhood. Living with a grandmother who didn’t prioritize education, they missed school until the age of 8. Subsequently, moving in with their father, they faced prolonged periods of abandonment and homelessness, culminating in a harrowing shooting incident that led to their removal from his custody.

Overcoming Adversity

Despite enduring challenging circumstances, with the guidance of their GEAR UP mentors, the triplets defied the odds. Their perseverance and diligence paid off as they successfully graduated from high school. Throughout their academic journey, they maintained a GPA above 3.0, enrolled in advanced courses, participated in extracurricular activities, and even juggled jobs as “unaccompanied minors.”

A Heartwarming Surprise

Their remarkable resilience captured the attention of the FOX5 Surprise Squad, who decided to surprise them at their graduation ceremony. The heartwarming video captures the Yeckes Triplets being celebrated for their incredible achievements, inspiring viewers with their story of triumph over adversity.

A Testament to Resilience

Haley, Kassidy, and Sierra, also known as the Yeckes Triplets, epitomize resilience and determination. Overcoming the loss of both parents and enduring homelessness, they not only excelled academically but also graduated from high school with flying colors.
