Superstitions and a Father’s Tale
Although superstitions often connect to ancient pagan beliefs and religious practices, many people still hold onto them today. This joke illustrates such a scenario.
The Story
A father tucked his 3-year-old daughter into bed, told her a story, and listened to her prayers. She ended by saying, “God bless Mommy, God bless Daddy, God bless Grandma, and goodbye Grandpa.”
Puzzled, the father asked, “Why did you say goodbye to Grandpa?”
The little girl replied, “I don’t know, Daddy. It just seemed like the thing to do.” The next day, Grandpa died. The father thought it was a strange coincidence.
Another Goodbye
Months later, as the father listened to his daughter’s prayers, she said, “God bless Mommy, God bless Daddy, and goodbye Grandma.” The following day, Grandma died.
“Holy crap,” thought the father. “This kid is in contact with the other side.”
A Father’s Fear
Weeks later, the girl said during her prayers, “God bless Mommy, and goodbye Daddy.” The father was so troubled that he barely made it through the day. Constantly checking his watch, he dreaded the worst. Feeling safer at work, he stayed at the office until midnight, drinking coffee to stay awake.
Finally, when midnight arrived, he felt relieved and went home.
The Unexpected Twist
When he got home, his wife remarked, “I’ve never seen you work so late. What’s the matter?”
“I don’t want to talk about it,” he said. “I just had the worst day of my life.”
She replied, “You think you had a bad day? You’ll never believe what happened to me. This morning, the mailman dropped dead on our porch!”
