Grant DeYoung’s Unique Jeopardy! Experience
If you’ve watched Jeopardy! recently, you’ve seen Grant DeYoung accumulating thousands of dollars over four wins.
A Different Approach to the Game
You might have noticed something different about DeYoung’s gameplay. The grocery clerk from Arizona has been sitting in a chair, unlike his fellow contestants.
Social Media Reactions
Many took to social media to express curiosity—and some annoyance—about DeYoung’s accommodation.
Explanation from the Show’s Producer
On Monday, producer Sarah Whitcomb Foss explained DeYoung’s arrangement on the Inside Jeopardy! podcast. “Fans have been noticing that Grant is sitting in a chair during his games,” she said. “This is something that we always offer to contestants. We don’t ask why; it’s not our business. If you want a chair, we’ll give it to you.”
DeYoung’s Response to Fans
Jeopardy! fans on Reddit were surprised when DeYoung himself answered their questions. He revealed, “They give it if you ask. I have some back arthritis that makes standing still for that long very difficult. I wouldn’t expect everyone who sits for Jeopardy! to disclose their reason for needing one, but I don’t mind saying mine.”
Behind the Scenes at Work
Another user asked if DeYoung could sit during his regular job. He replied, “Even better, they let me walk around and be in continuous motion, but Jeopardy hasn’t quite figured that one out yet.”
