Celebrating the Bounty of Summer
Summer brings sunshine, warmth, and the joy of longer days, along with the opportunity for well-deserved holidays. Additionally, it offers an abundance of seasonal produce, making it a favorite time for many.
Preserving the Taste of Summer: Freezing Corn
Debora Williams Dembski shared her tried and true method for freezing corn on the cob, ensuring its enjoyment even after summer ends.
The Method: Preserving Freshness
Peel away a few layers of shuck skins and trim each end of the cob. Avoid blanching the corn. Place the corn straight into freezer bags or vacuum seal them before freezing. When ready to eat, run it under water to remove the shucks and silks, then cook it while still frozen.
Versatile Enjoyment: Cooking Options
Cook the frozen corn by boiling it for approximately 15 minutes, or explore other cooking methods such as steaming, grilling in the shuck wrapped in aluminum foil, or microwaving.
Embracing a New Possibility
Discovering this method opens up new possibilities for enjoying corn on the cob beyond its seasonal availability. Stocking up at the end of summer ensures continued enjoyment throughout the year. Thanks to Debora for sharing this ingenious corn hack!
