The woods outside Buena Vista Township are no place for a young child to spend the night, especially given their dense and perilous terrain. But when the police found the boy, they were in for a surprise.
A Loyal Companion
When police arrived at the boy’s home, they learned he had wandered off with his black Labrador. The rescue team then received a report from a neighbor who heard cries for help in the woods, which increased the urgency of the search. An hour filled with worry passed before the police and the boy’s mother made a wonderful discovery. Emerging from the forest were the 4-year-old boy and his dog.
A Heartwarming Reunion
The sobbing child rushed with outstretched arms toward the trooper and his mother. His Labrador had stayed faithfully by the boy’s side the entire time. What a loyal and wonderful companion!

The police officers’ body cameras captured this heartwarming moment. “We are thankful to report that due to the quick response of the troopers and his mother, the terrified child was safely located and in good health,” New Jersey State Police wrote.

The relief of finding the child safe was overwhelming, but the most heartwarming part of this story was the family dog’s loyalty. After the police posted the video online, many praised the black Labrador.
