Redditor Shares Heartbreaking Vacation Experience
On August 6, 2022, a Redditor posted a story on the “AITA” subreddit. She shared an upsetting experience overhearing her husband’s conversation during a vacation with his family—a vacation she attended uninvited.
The Uninvited Guest
The Redditor explained, “His family arranged the vacation last week. Out of curiosity, I asked if I could come. My husband felt hesitant, but I told him it’d be a great opportunity to get to know his family better. He agreed, and his family, though surprised, still welcomed me.”
Overhearing Hurtful Remarks
On the third day, while the family chatted outside, the Redditor was preparing a fruit salad. Approaching the table, she overheard her mother-in-law say, “…did she really have nowhere else to spend the weekend?”
Confused, she then heard her husband respond, “I KNOW! I didn’t want to bring her, but what was I supposed to do? You know how pushy she can get.”
Feeling Unwanted
Realizing they were talking about her, the Redditor was devastated. “This whole time I cleaned, cooked, looked after the kids, and this is how they think of me? An inconvenience?” she wrote.
Immediate Reaction
Heartbroken, she immediately bought a ticket back home and took the first available flight. “He called and texted, but I didn’t respond other than to let him know I was home. When he got back, he went off on me, saying what I did was disrespectful and juvenile.”
