For those of us driving older vehicles, the frustration of locking your keys inside is all too familiar. While newer cars often prevent this mishap, owners of older models may still face this headache. Typically, you’d have to call for roadside assistance, wait for help to arrive, and shell out a decent amount of cash. Not to mention, the whole ordeal could take up a chunk of your day.
But what if there was an easier, quicker way to get back into your car? A popular video from YouTube creator Crazy Experimenter shows just that—a simple trick using nothing but a shoelace and your hands.
A Clever DIY Solution
In the video, the creator walks through the steps to unlock your car in just 30 seconds. Here’s how it works: First, remove the shoelace from one of your shoes (or use a piece of thin rope if you have one handy). Next, tie a small noose knot in the center of the lace.
Holding the lace by both ends, slip it into the gap between the car door and the frame. Carefully lower the shoelace and position the loop around the car’s lock mechanism. Once the loop is in place, pull on both ends of the shoelace to tighten the noose. With the noose secure, pull the lace upward, and just like that, the lock pops open.
Practical and Unexpected
This hack is surprisingly effective and could save you from a frustrating situation if you ever lock yourself out of your car while away from home. To see the technique in action, check out Crazy Experimenter’s YouTube video.
Although this method might seem wild, it’s certainly a handy trick to keep in mind.
