Different Ways People Handle Stress
People cope with stress in various ways. Some find relief in relaxing activities like long walks or conversations with friends. Others, however, turn to less healthy habits, such as overeating. While food can provide temporary comfort, it often leads to long-term health issues.
Ashley Bratcher’s Journey
Ashley Bratcher from Texas faced significant weight gain due to emotional eating. After her mother abandoned her and her siblings, Ashley turned to food for solace. She took on the role of protector for her younger siblings, neglecting her own well-being in the process.
“I felt like I had to protect my brother and sister, so I let it happen to me to keep it from happening to them,” Ashley shared.

Turning Point
By the time Ashley sought help, she weighed 725 pounds. Determined to change, she applied to the TLC show My 600-Lb Life and consulted Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, a renowned weight loss surgeon. Dr. Nowzaradan warned Ashley that her current lifestyle could be fatal before age 30. This served as a crucial wake-up call for her.
“I needed to take control and make a change,” Ashley realized.

The Road to Recovery
Ashley’s 5-year-old son was her primary support, handling many daily tasks for her. “He’s my legs; without him, I’d be lost,” she said in 2016.
Before Dr. Now approved her gastric bypass surgery, Ashley followed a calorie-restricted diet and lost 123 pounds. After the surgery, she lost an additional 255 pounds and regained control of her life. “This journey has been both a physical and emotional rollercoaster,” she told People.

A New Chapter
In 2018, on the show My 600-Lb Life: Where Are They Now?, Ashley revealed she now weighs under 300 pounds and no longer relies on food for comfort. She has regained her self-confidence and can enjoy activities like shopping and long showers.

Inspiration and Support
Ashley shares her progress on Instagram, where many followers admire her dedication. “Surgery is just a tool; it doesn’t change your mindset,” she emphasizes. Her husband, Jack, who recently celebrated their 12th anniversary, continues to be a significant source of support.

We’re thrilled for Ashley and her incredible transformation. Keep going, Ashley!
