In my house, making a bed is akin to an art form, passed down from my Mother. While most people’s beds consist of a fitted sheet, top sheet, and either a quilt, comforter, or duvet, there are bed-making tricks that elevate the appearance of your bedroom and guest rooms.
Correcting Misconceptions
Sullivan May of Southern Living recalled a guest correcting them while making a bed, insisting that they were putting the top sheet on upside down. Contrary to popular belief, the vibrant-colored or more patterned side of the top sheet should face down. This ensures that when you fold the top end over the quilt, comforter, or duvet, the colored or patterned side is visible.
Achieving Hotel-Quality Bedding
According to Southern Living, folding the top sheet down an inch or two over the top of your quilt, then folding both over again, creates a hotel-quality made bed. In our home, each bed features two pillows with pillowcases matching the sheet set, and two pillows with pillowcases matching the quilt or duvet cover. Adding at least one throw pillow and one throw blanket to each bed ensures our guests feel comfortable and at home during their stay.
This simple housekeeping tip significantly enhances the ambiance of a bedroom, especially a guest room. It’s a quick and easy way to make guests feel welcomed and appreciated during their stay.
