For five years, this woman only consumed one piece of bread per day, but now look at her

Struggling with Appearance and Weight

Many people struggle with their appearance and weight for various reasons. Despite movements to embrace body positivity and more realistic models in advertisements, eating disorders remain a global issue.

Sharing Her Story

Annie Windley from Derbyshire, England, shares her story to help others facing eating disorders. After years of undernourishment, she is now in recovery and aims to support those in similar situations.

Battling an Eating Disorder

Windley’s weight never exceeded 29 kg (63 pounds). This low weight led to severe medical complications and a high risk of heart attack. At 21, she fought her eating disorder for five years, enduring multiple hospitalizations and treatments.

Turning to Running

Windley used her love of running to aid her recovery. She completed the Chesterfield Half Marathon in October of last year. On social media, she shared, “I realized that rehabilitation is a thrilling and unforgettable process. My anorexia will always be a part of me, but I’ve learned to control it and stop obsessing over food.”

Journey to Recovery

Diagnosed in 2012, Windley began her recovery two years later. In October 2017, she decided to fight her eating disorder for herself. She said, “The battle was incredible, filled with excruciating feelings and extraordinary bravery. I’ve gained three stones in the last four months, now at my heaviest since 2014.”

Lessons Learned

Windley’s experience taught her the importance of self-respect and treating others kindly, beyond physical appearance. “These are the things that will make you happy and are crucial to you,” she said.

Finding Focus and Drive

Focusing on respect for others and her love of running saved her. Channeling her energy from restricting food intake to achieving success changed her mindset. “Pay attention to your enthusiasm and drive to succeed where you wish to go,” she advised.

Previously eating almost nothing but a piece of bread most days, Windley often felt faint or collapsed. Now, she is moving towards a healthier weight and mindset regarding her body.

Embracing Health and Happiness

“We must show our disorders that we can overcome them. We don’t want to live our lives filled with unhappiness and regret over missed opportunities due to anorexia,” Windley emphasized.
