It is always exciting when a group of workers gets together, buys a lottery ticket, and wins it big. That’s what happened to some Australian miners who won a lottery worth $36 million.
When the manager first heard about the group of 20 miners who won the $36 million lottery, he thought that they were joking. Now, he is concerned because they may not be coming back to work.
There were three different winners who split the $110 million Powerball jackpot lottery in October 2022. One of the winners was a group of 20 miners based in Gold Fields in Australia. They ended up taking home a total of $36.44 million, which would be split 20 ways.
In other words, each of them was winning $1.822 million!
After winning the jackpot, they called the manager and broke the news to him. Unfortunately, for him, he wasn’t part of the group that purchased the lottery ticket.
Chris Wood, the manager, said that he told the group of miners: “it’s impossible, I don’t believe you, you are joking.”
He also said that he was ‘very happy for each of them’ and said that he would ‘run after them and steal their ticket if they [didn’t] come back’ to work.
He said the group of miners makes up his ‘best shift’ and added “They are all from here.”
Nobody has said yet whether they decided to come back to work or quit completely and explore their new millionaire status. Someone from another group did say whether they would return if they had a big win.
One of the workers did say that it felt ‘amazing’ and ‘electric’ after winning the money. It’s also noteworthy that there was not a huge shift within the workforce after the entire town was changed after the win.
What would you have done?
