Fans of Jeopardy are outraged when all three competitors fail to respond to this prayer question.

The Popularity of Jeopardy!

“Jeopardy!” is the most popular game show on television. Contestants, sharp and knowledgeable, tackle questions that often challenge the average viewer.

Surprising Struggle with a Simple Clue

Many Christian viewers were surprised when all three contestants struggled with a seemingly simple clue related to the Lord’s Prayer on a recent episode.

On June 13, host Mayim Bialik presented the $200 clue from the “Dadjectives” category: “This ‘Be Thy Name,’ Our Father Who Art in Heaven,” declares Matthew 6:9.

A Missed Answer

The answer is “sacred” (or, more precisely, “what is sacred,” following Jeopardy! guidelines), a term familiar to those taught the Lord’s Prayer in Sunday school.

Despite the simplicity, none of the contestants could answer. This struck a nerve among the faithful, who saw it as a reflection of diminishing religious knowledge in the US.

Reactions from Viewers

A Twitter user asked, “Are you up yet?” Another tweeted, “Memorizing the Lord’s Prayer felt just like memorizing the Pledge of Allegiance. It was something you simply did.”

Some viewed it as a sign of diminishing faith in the US, while others were astounded. One Twitter user said, “As an atheist, I still managed to answer that question about the Lord’s prayer.” Another joked about Iron Maiden’s track “Hallowed Be Thy Name.”

Contestants’ Performance

The question, perceived as easy, confused the contestants. Observers noted that two contestants, with low scores, may have opted for caution rather than risk falling further behind.

Jeopardy!’s Religious Questions

Jeopardy! often includes questions related to Christianity and the Bible, with contestants usually providing accurate responses to difficult inquiries. Some viewers worry about the show’s focus on Christianity due to its frequent appearance as a topic.

Jeopardy! invites participants from various backgrounds and religious perspectives. It’s likely that these three contenders were not brought up in predominantly Christian households like many viewers.

Final Jeopardy!

The Final Jeopardy answer was about the actor who appeared in the two movies with the highest-selling soundtracks in 1978. The answer was John Travolta, known for his roles in “Saturday Night Fever” and “Grease.” Despite struggling with the Lord’s Prayer, contestants showed improvement in their knowledge of 1970s cinema.

Following this win, Suresh Krishnan has now won six consecutive games in the competition.
