Fill the holes with water, followed by a stump remover chemical or potassium nitrate. Soak the ground around the stump with water as well. Cover the stump and surrounding area with a plastic tarp. To speed up the process, place mulch or another organic material over the tarp and water it thoroughly.

After about a month, the stump should be very soft. Use an ax or shovel to break up the remaining stump and remove the pieces. Larger stumps may take longer to decompose.

Method 2: Burning

Burning a stump, when done safely, can be one of the fastest removal methods. Start by drilling holes in the stump and filling them with a stump remover product. Then, pour gas into the holes and over the base of the stump.

Carefully ignite the stump and let it burn. Avoid this method if it’s been extremely hot and dry, as it can pose a fire hazard. Check your local fire bylaws if you live in the city to ensure compliance.

Method 3: Grinder

Using a stump grinder is a quick and efficient way to remove a stump. If you own a stump grinder, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. If you don’t own one, borrow one from a friend or rent one. Renting a stump grinder is cost-effective, especially if you have multiple stumps to remove.

Place the grinder’s wheel a couple of inches above the stump and turn it on. If renting, ask for a demonstration, as operation can vary by model. This method quickly removes stumps from your property.
