Staff Walkout Shuts Down Dollar General in Mineral Point
In a surprising turn of events, the entire staff at a Dollar General store in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, quit simultaneously, causing a temporary closure. This incident highlights the challenging conditions many employees face.
Overworked and Underpaid
Trina Tribolet, the General Manager, revealed that the staff felt overworked and underpaid. Due to limited staffing hours, she worked seven days a week for months. This exhausting schedule left the staff feeling unappreciated and burnt out.

Difficult Decision to Quit
The decision to quit was tough, but the staff realized they couldn’t continue without recognition or rewards. Leaving loyal customers was hard, but their well-being and mental health had to come first.
Temporary Closure and Reopening
The store closed for about three hours on a Saturday morning before reopening with a new staff. Dollar General’s spokesperson emphasized the company’s commitment to creating a positive work environment and ensuring that employees feel valued, heard, and have opportunities for career growth.

Frustration Over Food Donation Policy
Tribolet and her former colleagues were also frustrated by the store’s food donation policy. They were disheartened by the amount of good food thrown away instead of being donated. Although some food is donated to pantries, a significant amount goes to waste due to strict regulations.
Tribolet recalled instances where items like coffee or cereal were discarded because they were close to their expiration dates. These items could have helped families in need but were discarded because of rigid guidelines.
Call for Change
Despite following donation guidelines from Feeding America, the staff believed more could be done to minimize waste and support the community. This closure reminds us that employee well-being and community impact should always be considered.
