Jimmy Kimmel’s Heartfelt Update on Son’s Health
Jimmy Kimmel has openly shared the health struggles of his 7-year-old son, Billy, since his birth in 2017. Recently, Kimmel revealed that Billy had to undergo a major surgery for the third time.
A Personal Update
On Monday, Jimmy Kimmel posted a heartfelt update on Instagram. He shared a picture of Billy smiling in a hospital room and explained the recent events in the caption.
He wrote, “This weekend, our boy Billy had his third (of three, we hope) open heart surgery. We went into this experience with a lot of optimism and nearly as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy kid.”

Gratitude and Reflection
Kimmel continued by expressing gratitude to Billy’s surgeon and the medical team at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He also acknowledged the other parents he met there and how their stories impacted him.
He thanked his wife, family, and friends for their unwavering support. “Thanks to those loving strangers who took time to pray for and send positive energy to our baby, and thanks to our family and friends for rallying around us,” he wrote. “Thank you to my wife Molly for being stronger than is reasonable for any mom to be.”

A Message to Billy
Kimmel ended his caption with a heartfelt message for his son. “And Billy, you are the toughest (and funniest) 7-year-old we know. There are so many parents and children who aren’t fortunate enough to go home after five days. Please share your love, hearts, and prayers with them, and if it moves you, support @ChildrensLA or a great children’s hospital near you. Nothing matters more than taking care of each other. With love and gratitude, Jimmy.”
Support from Friends
Many of Kimmel’s famous friends commented on the post, echoing his love and support. Carson Daly wrote, “We love you Billy,” and Andy Cohen added, “Love to Billy.”
Billy’s Journey
In 2017, Kimmel shared in a viral monologue that Billy was born with a heart defect. Since then, Kimmel has continually thanked the medical professionals who have cared for his son.
In April, Kimmel celebrated Billy’s 7th birthday with a sweet note, updating his followers on Billy’s health. “Billy turns 7 today and is doing great thanks to the doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff at @ChildrensLA & @CedarsSinai,” he wrote. Billy asked friends “to give $7 because I’m seven to help kids in the hospital.” His goal was “to raise $100 to help sick kids.”
Kimmel also shares a daughter, 9-year-old Jane, with his wife Molly McNearney, and has two children from his previous marriage to Gina Maddy.
